The brief was to create a garden room that would be used as an art studio and cosy nook to sit and enjoy the surrounding planting. This was an addition to a garden that we already designed and built (see project here), so it had to be designed into the existing garden seamlessly.
It needed to be a unique shape to maximise space and work with the awkward shaped garden, which presented a great opportunity to have fun with the design. I designed scalloped Cedar shingles to form the cladding, with a green roof and vertical timbers to offer a sense of privacy. The roof pitches into the garden to enable a down pipe to feed a Corten water bowl set within planting. All of the timber for the building was grown and milled in the South West, ticking sustainability boxes for the project.
We also built the interiors, which were fully insulated and plastered and featured locally grown live edge timber worktops, English limestone floors, and generous windows. Simple spot lights were include inside and out, which look especially good cut into the cladding.
Building bespoke timber structures is something we particularly enjoy so please get in touch if you would like to find out more.
