Garden designers naturally have a real interest in how their actions impact the spaces they work in. But as responsible designers, we also need to understand how these actions impact the wider world.
Who knew you could find Pitcher Plants in a Devon heathland?
I spent some time plant hunting recently and managed to find this absolutely stunning Sarracenia (pitcher plant), as well as some other carnivorous native plants.
Check out the full video on my YouTube - link in my bio.

How do you design a front and back garden all in one? 👇
This was such a beautiful garden but it was a real challenge to design! It was both a front and back garden all in one, so it had to be both usable but also have a generous access from the house to the gate. It also needed to be family friendly and give a nod to the rich history of the house, which used to be a piggeries!
The key was to add the feature corrugated planter in the centre of the path, making the pathway both functional and a feature at the same time.
Since the path cut the garden in two it also meant we could have a big bed for cottage planting on one side and then a generous lawn on the other. Topiary cones added some much needed structure too 🪴. Pathways don’t have to be boring!
Amazing details with the hard landscaping too, thanks to @benjaminrichardpope @landy3614 @leighapugh @jimbobs2020 🥂!
Also who knows what I was saying to Charlie in this pic? Let me know 😂.

New video on YouTube of my search for unusual carnivorous plants out at the Pebbled Heaths in East Devon. I would really appreciate it if you’d give it a watch.
It’s a chance for me to make longer content on topics that I find really interesting and hopefully you will do too!

One of mine has to be putting the plants in. All of the hard work finally pays off and the garden comes to life. I love playing around with the setting out as well to make sure everything is just right.
Then there’s the anticipation as you wait for it to fill out and develop into a beautiful garden!
This was a garden that I designed and built with @benjaminrichardpope - Ben did the majority of the build and then I got involved with all the bespoke steel work on the raised planters and shelter. Such a fun project and always great to work together!

P.s I know the lawn looks SUPER dry, but we’re in a heatwave okay 😎

AD It’s all about having the right tool for the job and with @STIHLGB I am spoilt for choice!
I wear many hats: Landscape Designer, Gardener, Landscaper and so on - but being a gardener is how I started in horticulture when I was a teenager. I can get quite complacent if I’m sat at a computer too long, so being able to be out in the garden on the tools is a great release.
Luckily STIHL has the best arsenal of tools for every garden job, and being on the professional AP system, they have more than enough power and I can switch batteries between everything. I wouldn’t promote something if I didn’t genuinely love it - so you know it’s going to be good!

My Step Dad is a forester so I’ve grown up around forestry and have been splitting wood since I was a little boy! I couldn’t resist the invite to watch the @officialstihltimbersports British Championship event at the Three Counties Show this year. What’s not to love; animals, farming & Timbersports!
It is absolutely wild what the athletes can do under such pressure and what really surprised me, is that only a few of them actually have day jobs in a forestry role, pursuing this sport as their passion in their spare time.
For me - the most difficult looking challenge was the Springboard. With competitors climbing up a 2m log on boards, only to split the top off with an axe. However, it was clearly the Hot Saw competition that was the most exciting - the noise and speed of those saws just blows you away.
Congrats to @Glen.Penlington for taking the win in the Men’s British Championship. Absolutely smashed it!

Designing and building this absolute beauty completely consumed mine and @sidhillecogardens lives for nearly two years! It was such a long time ago that we began planning the early stages of design and then all of a sudden we were there, with a gold medal in hand!
We couldn’t have done it without the help from our amazing team @gardenrescuegruff @benjaminrichardpope @atlantes_landscapes @bigfinatlantes Joe Samson-Hill and the planting gang @tomgardens @juderice @zohull_ @poppylmoores
Hopefully we have given people food for thought when it comes to discussing bowel health, by creating a stunning garden that also tells a story.
